SAVANNAH YOUNG

Savannah was raised in San Clemente, CA, where she attended her first painting class at nine years old at Von Lortz’ Sidestreet Gallery. She continued to study painting under the instruction of Mary Von Lortz, and eventually became her assistant and a teacher to the youth in her junior painting classes before transferring to the Savannah College of Art & Design. As of Winter 2024, she will receive a BFA in Painting with a Drawing minor. With a focus on the figure, she now explores themes of memory, expression, and theology. 

ARTIST STATEMENT 

In protest of tribalism and in search of truth, my work explores figurative painting, sculpture, and writing. It relates to our form, thoughts, emotions, actions, and the things we hold dear. Focusing on these shared experiences, as well as ethics and ideology, my work relates to all things human. 

Currently, the work depicts moments of quiet reflection and sentimental trinkets passed down through generations. Using light as a symbol for the good in the most mundane or imperfect of circumstances, my work is a testament to the divinity that can be found in our daily lives.
